Riccardo Tisci is truly a master of the mix, and never fails to blend different influences and Givenchy signatures into a scintillating swirl of newness. His Pre-Fall 2014 collection for the French fashion house builds on the African imprint that pervaded the Spring 2014 offerings, infused with Gustav Klimt-inspired prints and Bauhaus-esque colorblocked hues.Colorblocking packs a punch right out of the gate, giving rise to draped blouses, an electric feather jacket, neutral trousers that can work for the office or night on the town.Tisci riffs on the draped frocks and separates inspired by traditional Maasai garb, this time infusing the designs with exposed zippers. The pieces are anchored with velvet bags and sandals for a true texture synthesis.Fur is far from timid, accenting the cuffs of an elbow-sleeve coat, the bodice and sleeves of a leather jacket, and a vest that is cinched ever so glamorously at the waist with a shimmering gold band.Tisci loves a button-front polo: the style was extremely popular in 2013 for stylish men, with the brand’s hard-to-miss star motifs around the neckline. He reimagines the classic for the ladies in the offerings with a colorful American flag motif and an earth-hued colorblock print, both paired with floor-length black pleated maxi skirts, black leather belts pulling in the models’ waists, and black leather opera gloves. The juxtaposition of masculine versus feminine, preppy versus bohemian, and the fusion of different textures is strong and a very real way to layer up in real-time given the polar vortex sweeping through most of the United States.Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Nicole Richie are among the slew of stylish women who wore Givenchy in 2013 and they will surely be dazzled by the sequin numbers here. With awards season on the horizon, I won’t be surprised if a couple of these numbers make their debut on the red carpet with shorter hemlines, fierce makeup, and sky-high pumps. What do you think of Riccardo Tisci’s latest for Givenchy?#gallery-1 {margin: auto;}#gallery-1 .gallery-item {float: left;margin-top: 10px;text-align: center;width: 33%;}#gallery-1 img {border: 2px solid #cfcfcf;}#gallery-1 .gallery-caption {margin-left: 0;}/* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */Images: Style.com

This is a noteworthy year for Duro Olowu, as his brand is celebrating a decade in business. If your line was able to survive the economy of the past few years and the ever-changing needs of the stylish consumer, then it’s safe to say that your brand DNA is crafted from some strong stuff. Olowu is well aware, and stuck to his signatures for his latest Fall 2014 collection: bold prints, a retro-inspired vibe, and expert tailoring.Olowu pulled inspiration from the 20′s furniture designs of Elizabeth Eyre de Lanux, as well as the work of those in the Dada Movement of the early 20th century including Marcel Duchamp and one of my personal favorites, Man Ray. The influence was blatant in the vintage feel of the designs from a plush black fur scarf bracing the neck to the Art Deco nature of the collection’s dizzying zigzag, chevron, and geometric prints. The simplicity of a tie-neck cape and dress in a similar silhouette in black, hot pink, and cobalt coloring was breathtaking. For those who aren’t comfortable with mixing prints, these designs will surely hit the mark, as well as making an impact in the retail sector for boutiques and department stores.First Lady Michelle Obama and actress Brittany Snow were among the brand’s wearers last year and a couple of the gowns on display made a great case for red carpet-worthy attire. A tiered dot and floral print number will be beautiful for a Summer movie premiere while a voluminous brocade piece with stripe and leopard pattern insets could certainly make a statement on the red carpet during Cannes.Thoughts on Duro Olowu’s Fall collection?#gallery-1 {margin: auto;}#gallery-1 .gallery-item {float: left;margin-top: 10px;text-align: center;width: 33%;}#gallery-1 img {border: 2px solid #cfcfcf;}#gallery-1 .gallery-caption {margin-left: 0;}/* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */Images: Style.com
