Duro Olowu is a designer after my own heart: one who believes that bold prints and eye-catching hues were made for year-round wear. What he changes with each new season are the textures and layering using light and airy fabrics and showing some skin for Spring, while Fall is all about the addition of fur and pairing tights and socks with the looks. His newest collection for Fall 2012 is just what the season ordered: long printed coats with fur collars, patchwork skirts to make the transition between Summer and Autumn easy, flirty cocktail dresses for elegant events and nights out and so much more.Olowu was inspired by Egon Schiele’s 1911 painting Self Portrait in Peacock Waistcoat and you can see its influence in the collection with its use of warm tones, brushstroke prints and varying textures. He loves to mix patterns and did it quite masterfully with geometric-floral combinations, varying kinds of paisley and he often alternated the same prints in different shades. The collection wasn’t all about excess and eccentricity. Olowu showed several looks with black as the focus including a suit with pleated banded-bottom pants, a conservative bias-cut gown and a retro-inspired single-breasted coat.My two favorite looks from the collection were two sleeveless patchwork print party dresses with pleated hems. The Duro Olowu woman is one who is confident and doesn’t mind turning a few heads. This collection was a strong one, as it presented variety and functional silhouettes while still holding true to his love for prints and vibrant colors. I would love to see these dresses and gowns on the red carpet, perhaps on someone like Solange Knowles who is never afraid to take a risk. I can also see his outerwear pieces being a huge hit for the season. What do you think of Duro Olowu’s new collection?#gallery-1 {margin: auto;}#gallery-1 .gallery-item {float: left;margin-top: 10px;text-align: center;width: 33%;}#gallery-1 img {border: 2px solid #cfcfcf;}#gallery-1 .gallery-caption {margin-left: 0;}/* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */Photos: Style.com

(WWD)• You’re never too old to compete with younger women! 84-year-old Marie Kolstad is the oldest woman in the world to get breast implants. She went from a 36B to a very perky 38D. She says the difficult dating climate at her age is the reason she got the surgery: “I would love to find a new man, but all the men my age want women 20 years younger. I thought I’d better take action so I can compete.” Who knew the senior citizen dating scene was so competitive?  (Daily Mail)• Here is the new Holiday Video for Lanvin, featuring the delightful (and authoritative) Alber Elbaz, and some folks dancing slightly off beat. We’ll forgive them. (Racked)~Jihan

• Nicki Minaj goes Smurfette blue for a profile in Vogue. The “Stupid Hoe” rapper sat down with the Fashion Bible to talk her sartorial proclivities (she wears “costumes, not outfits,”) and her future plans to start “an enormous foundation to nurture girls.” (hopefully not by calling them nappy headed hoes). What do you think of a blue Nicki? (Vogue)• Kate Moss has been diagnosed with a nerve disorder (ulnar nerve entrapment,) that has left her temporarily paralyzed in her right arm. She is expected to make a full recovery over the next few months, though the model is currently having difficulty performing everyday tasks (like taking a lid off a jar.) A friend close to Moss says “her hand is not paralysed or injured in any permanent way.” Get well soon, Kate! (Daily Mail)• Because the theme hasn’t at all been overdone, M.A.C cosmetics is launching a Marilyn Monroe inspired collection. The 30-piece line is set to drop in October, just in time for you to get your Marilyn Monroe Halloween costume together. (WWD)• Ever wanted to know what goes on behind the scenes at Prada‘s workshop? For the first time ever, the famed Italian design house is opening its doors to La Reppublica, a mere 24 hours before the collection hits the runway. (La Reppublica)• And just for fun, here’s President Barack Obama singing with B.B. King and Mick Jagger at the White House. He sounds great! If this re-election thing doesn’t work out, he can always record an album! (HuffPost)~Jihan
